Nevada County Bank Building Inspection

Written by on October 1, 2017 in Commercial Building Inspections

Since Signet Inspection Group has become the go-to resource for historic commercial building inspections in Northern California, it was no surprise we got the nod to conduct a commercial building inspection of the iconic Nevada County Bank building in downtown Grass Valley which opened its doors in May of 1917. This 10,560 sq. ft. building, designed in the Greek Revival style and modeled after a Greek temple, is quite possibly the most impressive and architecturally unique building in all of downtown Grass Valley. The building’s façade is original including the stately columns and domed roof and the bank was considered a fortress against thieves as it was constructed almost entirely of concrete that was mixed with tons of scrap metal.

During the commercial building inspection we discovered an inner chamber in the attic area beneath the exterior dome that had long since been covered up. The highlights of this commercial building inspection included the concrete wall structure, dome wood framing with steel bracing and I-beam support and antiquated electrical and HVAC systems. Due to the age of the main HVAC system and electrical components, we employed our TEAM Approach using our trusted local specialty contractor partners

We were able to mount the flat roof sections but the dome required a commercial drone roof inspection by our certified FAA drone pilot. As we often do, we captured a bit of the Grass Valley downtown area while we were in the air.
